At AppHatchery, we believe that great digital products start with a deep understanding of the people who use them. As an intern, you’ll immerse yourself in user-centered design (UCD) practices, shaping mobile applications that support healthcare and research. Whether you’re designing, building, or strategizing, you’ll work across disciplines to bring ideas to life—always with the user at the core.You’ll have the opportunity to explore, experiment, and iterate, contributing to a highly collaborative team that values insight-driven design, seamless usability, and real-world impact. Our recent projects include a mobile app that supports low-English proficiency patients in hospital settings, a voice-based research platform for collecting ecological momentary assessments, and tools designed to enhance patient-provider communication. These applications are already in real-world use, with some deployed across hospital networks and others driving clinical and behavioral health research. You can read more about our projects at apphatchery.orgLocation: Atlanta (Hybrid with the flexibility to work from home, as long as the location is in Georgia)About You & The RoleAs an intern with the AppHatchery, you will gain hands-on experience in the full product development process—whether in UX research, UX design, UX engineering, or product management. You will work closely with researchers, designers, engineers, and product managers, contributing to the development of real-world digital health tools.We are looking for individuals who are passionate about creating impactful, user-centered products and excited to own projects from start to finish. You will have the opportunity to develop, test, and refine mobile applications that support healthcare and research environments.What You’ll Do (Pick Your Focus Area and Include in your CV)You will work in one or more of the following domains and have the opportunity to learn and contribute across disciplines:UX Research
- Design research plans using a mix of quantitative and qualitative
- Create interview guides, conduct primary research, and synthesize findings.
- Translate research insights into actionable product and design recommendations.
UX Design
- Develop low, medium, and high-fidelity designs for mobile applications using tools like Figma, Miro, or similar.
- Translate user research into clear, actionable design requirements.
- Collaborate with engineers to ensure design feasibility and implementation.
UX Engineering
- Develop mobile app features for iOS (Swift), Android (Kotlin/Java), or cross-platform tools (Flutter, React Native).
- Participate in mobile app architecture and development decisions.
- Implement designs and requirements into functional, platform-specific features.
Product Management
- Contribute to strategy discussions about app features, goals, and roadmaps.
- Own a specific feature or small project from user research through development and deployment.
- Coordinate with design, research, and engineering teams to bring ideas to life.
Minimum Qualifications
- Currently pursuing or recently graduated from a Master’s or PhD in Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, Design, or a related field.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in one or more of the listed domains (UX Research, UX Design, UX Engineering, or Product Management).
- Familiarity with web or mobile technologies (HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Android Studio, Xcode, Flutter, etc.).
- Experience translating research into design or design into code.
- Prior work in healthcare, medicine, or public health is a plus.
- Comfortable working in fast-paced, start-up-like environments and willing to take on cross-functional responsibilities (e.g., marketing assets, user engagement experiments).
- Strong collaboration and communication skills—you thrive on working with cross-functional teams and managing stakeholder relationships.
