- Assign specific codes to medical records, sequencing and determining codes to accurately reflect the resources and procedures used in the care of patients.
- Ensure compliance with regulatory and 3rd party insurance requirements and utilizing appropriate coding books.
- Checks medical record for completeness, accuracy, and compliance with regulatory requirements.
- Analyze and interpret documentation and record, ensuring accuracy, internal consistency and correlation of record data.
- Perform utilization review of records to assure diagnosis is appropriately identified.
- Identify and document any incident which may denote a potential compensatory event or questionable breach of quality of care delivered.

Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Additional information about transcripts is .Specialized Experience GS-06: One year of specialized experience which includes: updating patient medical records; gathering/input data from an automated medical record coding system; knowledge of coding books and procedures; identifying the correct medical code for each procedure. Certification from American Health Information Management Association (AHIMA) with either Clinical Coding Associate (CCA), Clinical Coding Specialist (CCS), Clinical Coding Specialist – Provide Based (CCS-P), or American Academy of Professional Coders Certified Professional Coder (CPC) – Certified Outpatient Coder (COC) or Certified Professional Coder-Apprentice (CPC-A) is preferred.Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify.
