For more information about working at the SC Department of Insurance, please visitThis position is located in the Office of Consumer Services.Under the Direct supervision of the OCS Manager, the OCS Intern provides support to the OCS Administrative Team, including but not limited to switchboard duties and logging of complaints and inquiries through the NAIC’s State Based System. The OCS Intern may also provide back-up support to the Department’s Outreach Program and Initiatives.
- Provides dedicated administrative support to the OCS Division and other Departmental projects.
- Provides technical and professional services to the OCS.
- Provides technical assistance to staff, management, the public and other governmental entities.
1. Research: The OCS Intern may be tasked with conducting research on various insurance-related topics,
such as regulations, policies, market assistance tracking, and consumer protection issues.2. Administrative Support: They may assist with general office tasks, such as answering phones, responding
to emails, including but not limited to External Review-Independent Review Organization IRO assignments, as well
as tracking the timely submissions of Remote Productivity Logs for the division. They might also help with
organizing meetings, preparing presentations, and maintaining databases. The OCS Intern may also provide backup
support to the Department’s Outreach Program and Initiatives.3. Special Projects: They may be assigned special projects based on their skills, such as developing new
procedures, implementing technological solutions, or conducting surveys. One of the dedicated projects will be
maintaining and tracking a back log of Certificate of Insurance Forms/ACORD forms that are received from carriers
due to liquor liability reporting. They may also assist the (LA&H) Supervising Analyst with LTC Objection Handling;
and or the OCS Manager and/or the (P&C) Supervising Analyst with Market Assistance mailbox handling.4. Shadowing: The intern may have the opportunity to shadow department staff members to gain insight into
their roles and responsibilities. This could involve attending meetings, participating in training sessions, and
observing day-to-day operationsA high school diploma and relevant program experience. A bachelor’s degree may be substituted for the required
program experience.• General Knowledge of where to locate the laws, regulations, policies, and procedures relevant to the
insurance department.
- Ability to exercise judgment and discretion. Ability to establish and maintain effective working
relationships.
- Ability to communicate effectively, both verbally and in writing.Educational Credentials:
